Thread Madeira Tanne No. 80 Order of working 1. Set up on the line of five marked dots. Work the braid continuously, keeping it full by gradually adding extra pairs where it widens and throwing them out where it narrows. All curves are turned with the scroll method. Sew off into the loops made when setting up. 2. Roll the inside edges of the motifs. 3. Fillings: the flower-shape motif has simple torchon ground: half-stitch, pin, half-stitch and twist with tallies as marked. The pointed leaf-shape has double torchon ground: cloth stitch, pin, cloth stitch and twist with Spot Spiders as marked.

Keeping the braids level, join the two braids at the centre point, and work to the end, making a hole where marked. Roll. Work the adjoining small side braids on both sides of the point and the two larger side braids next to where the curved shapes started. Roll. 4. The convoluted shape in the middle is started in four places. Firstly, sew in pairs near the centre scroll and work to where the braid divides. Work the short section first and make a hole as marked. Sew off into the braid. Work the remaining pairs around the curve in Ammonite, throwing out pairs as the braid narrows.
